Rebecca Yarros

The author behind Fourth Wing and The Empyrean — and the person whose company, Yarros Ink, launched the official dragonkind.com. Her books, her website, and the Dragonkind project, in one place.

Rebecca Yarros is the author of Fourth Wing and The Empyrean series — the romantasy saga that turned a dragon-rider academy into one of the biggest publishing phenomena of the decade. She is also the person behind the official Dragonkind experience: her company, Yarros Ink, Inc., runs dragonkind.com, and she wrote its story herself. This page collects the three things people search for most — her books, her official website, and her Dragonkind project — in one place.

◆ Who is Rebecca Yarros?

Rebecca Yarros is an American novelist and a #1 New York Times bestselling author. She writes in more than one register: alongside the dragon-and-war fantasy of The Empyrean, she has published contemporary romance, and her 2026 schedule contains both — a fantasy companion collection in September and a standalone contemporary novel in November.

What changed her career was Fourth Wing (2023). The book arrived at a moment when readers were hungry for romantasy with real stakes, and it delivered a premise that spread by word of mouth faster than any marketing could: a war college where the entrance exam is genuinely lethal, a heroine who survives on reading and stubbornness rather than strength, and dragons who do the choosing. The Empyrean has since become a franchise — novels, a companion collection, a graphic novel, a board game and screen adaptations in development.

She is also unusually hands-on with the fandom around it. Rather than licensing the world out and stepping back, Yarros wrote the story for the official interactive site herself and has publicly confirmed details in it — including that the site hides in-world "Public Notices" for players who look closely.

◆ Rebecca Yarros's official website

If you searched for Rebecca Yarros Dragonkind, you were probably looking for one of two very different things: her books and her author website, or the interactive Dragonkind experience her company runs. This section covers the first; the next one covers the second.

Her official website, rebeccayarros.com, is the author's own site — the place to go for announcements straight from her rather than secondhand. It carries her book list and release information, news about adaptations, and her own posts about the series.

The site is also worth visiting for one specific reason this year: one of the thirteen stories from Threshing Day is published there free. Xaden Riorson's account of his own Threshing is available to read at no cost and without buying the collection — an easy way to sample the book's first-person format before deciding whether the full collection is for you. More on that in our Threshing Day guide.

Two clarifications, because the names get tangled. rebeccayarros.com is the author's site. dragonkind.com is the interactive Dragonkind experience, launched later and run through her company. They are different properties with different purposes, and neither is affiliated with this fan site.

◆ Rebecca Yarros and Dragonkind

On October 1, 2026, Yarros's company Yarros Ink, Inc. launched dragonkind.com, an official, free, interactive website built around the Threshing — the ceremony in her books where dragons choose their riders.

The framing is that you are a candidate at Basgiath on Conscription Day. You enter the Rider's Quadrant, cross into the Threshing Valley, approach the dragons, and end the run bonded to the dragon that chose you — a result card built to be screenshotted and shared. It takes about ten minutes, needs nothing but an email address and a verification code, and it can be replayed.

Yarros is credited with the story, and the rest of the production reads like a small studio: the website by Infantree, background art by Andreas Rocha, dragon illustrations by Arancia Studio. She has also confirmed that hidden in-world "Public Notices" were seeded throughout for players who go looking.

The launch date was not an accident. In the books, Threshing is held every year on October 1, and dragonkind.com went live on October 1 — two days after the Threshing Day collection reached shelves. Yarros described the collection as "a fun trip back to Basgiath" rather than required reading, and the site is the same idea in a different medium: not new plot, but the chance to stand in the Valley yourself.

Demand was immediate. She shared on Instagram that roughly half a million people entered on the first day, enough to put the site into a queue during peak hours. Our step-by-step walkthrough covers the whole experience, and the black dragon guide covers the mechanic players reverse-engineered for the rarest match.

◆ Rebecca Yarros's books in order

The main sequence of The Empyrean runs like this:

  1. Fourth Wing (2023) — book one, and the entry point.
  2. Iron Flame (2023) — the direct sequel.
  3. Onyx Storm (2025) — the third novel.
  4. Threshing Day (2026) — a companion collection of thirteen Threshing stories, not a main-line novel.
  5. Untitled Book Four — in progress.
  6. Book Five — planned.

Threshing Day is the one people ask about most, because it sits outside the numbering. It is 224 pages of first-person Threshing accounts, one each from Xaden Riorson, Brennan Sorrengail, Dain Aetos, Sawyer Henrick, Sloane Mairi, Imogen Cardulo, Ridoc Gamlyn, Aaric Graycastle, Mira Sorrengail, Liam Mairi, Bodhi Durran, Rhiannon Matthias and Garrick Tavis. Violet is not among them — her Threshing was already told in Fourth Wing, and every narrator here is a rider, with no dragon point of view. The deluxe first edition adds sixteen full-colour illustrations by Joe Requeza. It can be read at any point after the trilogy.

The full sequence, with release dates and where each book fits, is on our Fourth Wing reading order page. For the world rather than the bibliography, start with The Empyrean series explained.
